Chevreuil (Roe Deer) can be described as a choreographic documentary; it presents source documents (those which generated the work) as well as invented documents (whose source is the choreographic work itself). The structuring of the work was not focused toward creating a spectacular form, rather the treatment of the (dis)junction of its different elements is revealed. In general a voluntarily spectacular presentation is structured through an implicit dramaturgical progression, but Chevreuil is presented as an object whose successive presence in various sequences addresses ideas of context, translation and History, in a nearly archaeological fashion.
Archaeology is about revealing what was hidden, of linking certain objects ; Chevreuil establishes contexts for these revelations without ever stabilizing them or imposing a particular contemplation. When we attend a performance, we are literally confronted with the cohabitation of two forms of (re)presentation: that which is showing us something, and that which presents us with a document. In this case, the documents consist of texts, recordings, composed music, abstract dances with references to architecture and formal dances referring to history …
Chevreuil is a piece without an axis of symmetry, a piece which is in the present, now.
